How to get Google's latest Android OS right now

Following its annual cycle, search giant Google has announced its latest Android operating system, Android P at its developers' conference Google I/O. Many changes are made in the new operating system and some developers have already started finding it interesting. If you are the one who cannot wait for it to available for your smartphone and wanted to install it then this post is for you.


All the features, that are part of the latest Android update and are already available for developers. For the first time, these are not restricted to Google's handsets. As announced at the event, as part of its Project Treble, Google is going to roll out the Beta version of Android P to its partner smartphone makers.

If you are among the avid Android users and want to get your hands of this update right now, here is what you need to do:
  1. Go to www.google.com/android/beta
  2. Sign in to your Google account
  3. Scroll down and find your eligible device
  4. Tap on opt-in once you spot your device
  5. One enrolled, you should receive a software update notification. If not, You will have to check for the update manually. For that, go to Settings > System > System Update
  6. Confirm the download and restart your device to complete the process.
While these steps may be eligible for Google phones, you may have to work a little extra for other partner devices -- Essential Phone, Sony Xperia XZ2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Nokia 7 Plus, Oppo R15 Pro, Vivo X21 and the soon to be launched OnePlus 6 -- as there is no direct over-the-air update. You will be required to flash your smartphone with the beta build of the operating system.

As part of the Android P update, users get features like Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, App Actions, Slices and much more onboard.

Besides that, Google also announced some new features in its most used products – Google Photos, Gmail, News and more. These products now have deeper integration of Artificial Intelligence.
