How to tweet when you don't have internet connection

Multiple online reports today have suggested that there has been an internet shutdown in the National Capital Region, which telecom operators like Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have confirmed. In such a situation if you want to use Twitter and send out tweets, there’s a workaround. Before we explain the steps, do remember that it is mandatory to have your mobile number added to your Twitter account. If your number is added to your Twitter account, then just follow these few simple steps to follow to tweet during an internet shutdown.

You need to know your Twitter short code — a number where you have to send an SMS to from your phone. In India, the Twitter short code is: 9248948837
  • Twitter’s support page says that “Users can send SMS messages to 9248948837 and will receive messages from TWITTR”
  • Whatever tweet you want to send out, simply type it as a text message and send it to 9248948837
  • The tweet will automatically be posted on your Twitter profile.
Do note that the above-mentioned steps work only if there’s an internet shutdown. In case — like it has been in some parts of Delhi — there is an SMS shutdown as well then this method won’t work.
