‘Battlefield 2042’ Open Beta Dates Revealed: Here’s Everything You Need To Know

EA has revealed the dates for its upcoming Battlefield 2042 open beta and it begins next week. The Battlefield 2042 open beta will begin on October 8 on all platforms, Electronic Arts announced today, or two days earlier, October 6, for EA Play members and anyone who has preordered the game. While issues stemming from COVID-19 might have caused 2020 to be underwhelming for some, this year has no shortage of Triple-A games releasing during the holiday season. With so many titles scheduled to release, it’s important to stand out from among the crowd. One of these high-profile games looking to set itself apart is Battlefield 2042.

The beta was originally expected to take place in September, but the full release of the near future shooter was delayed from October 22 to November 19. The beta will include the series most iconic mode, Conquest on a map called Orbital.

Other multiplayer modes in Battlefield 2042 includes All-Out Warfare and Hazard Zones mode. There are six other maps — Hourglass, Kaleidoscope, Manifest, Discarded, Breakaway, and Renewal. Battlefield 2042 players will be able to test four characters in the open beta test. They are Webster Mackay, Maria Falck, Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky, and Wikus "Casper" Van Daele.

Talking about all the four characters:

Mackay:
Mackay is your basic soldier with a much more straightforward plan of getting in the enemy's face and knocking them down while his fellow Specialists have a few more specialized tools and abilities. He comes equipped with a grappling hook that will allow you to traverse maps quicker, which also works well with his Nimble ability, allowing him to move faster while aiming down sights.

Falck:
Falck, on the other hand, is more focused on healing his team than killing the enemy. He comes equipped with the S21 Syrette Pistol, allowing players to heal friendlies from range. The Combat Surgeon ability allows him to give full health upon reviving a downed teammate.

Guskovsky:
Every Squad needs a leader, which is where Guskovsky comes in. The name of his game is to mark enemies for his teammates, a task that his Sentry gun and Senty Operator ability help him with. The former is a self aiming turret that will spot and attack any enemies seen in a certain area while the latter will mark enemies spotted by his Sentry gun.

Daele:
Finally, we come to the ghost, the sniper. Daele likes to stay by himself, staying at range from enemies on the battlefield. His Recon Drone flies above him, marking enemies and has a built-in EMP blast for anyone who gets too close to it. His Movement Sensor ability alerts him when there are enemies nearby.

EA detailed the supported platforms for the beta as well. Gamers can play on PC through Origin, EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store. In addition, it is available for download on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. This is good news for gamers playing on last-generation hardware as this disproves a rumor suggesting that the Battlefield 2042 beta wasn’t coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
